- Abstract
The search for innovation, whether in products, services and business models, is an intrinsic characteristic of startups, characterized as an essential factor for their creation and survival. The use of investment analysis practices can assist startups in their management and decision-making process, as well as contribute to the development and survival process of these ventures. This study aims to identify the adherence level for the Investment Analysis Practices Framework at Startups in the north and northwest in Paraná to analyze the viability of the business and/or product. The startups in this study were estimated from a series of surveys, to be approximately 200 companies, totalizing 46 startups (response rate of 23%). Data collection occurred through semi-structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and some other statistical tests. The non-parametric X² adherence test (Chi-square) was used to measure the level of adherence to the Framework. Finally, in order to check which variables influence directly the adherence to investment practices an X² test of independence was carried out. The obtained results demonstrate that there is adherence low to the proposed Framework for analyzing the viability of the startups' product and/or business. Traditional investment analysis practices have achieved greater adherence compared to complementary practices. The practices with the highest use average by the studied startups were payback, followed by the analysis of scenarios and the profitability index. It was also found that the characteristics of the respondents (academic background, education, and etc) and the characteristics of the company (number of partners, market, initial sources of investment, among others) were not variables that influenced the level of adherence.
