- Abstract
The article reports on the papaya die-back disease in Malaysia. The disease was first reported in the country by the Johor State Department of Agriculture in 2003. By the end of 2006, it had spread to five other states on the west coast of the Malaysian peninsula. It is believed that disease may have entered Malaysia via Johor, and were possibly spread to other states by human activity and by birds and insects. Analysis shows that bacterium Erwinia papayae has caused the plant disease. Details on the observed symptoms along with the study to identify the causes of the disease are discussed.
