- Abstract
The article surveys the acidification event at Bottle Bend Lagoon resulting partial drying of the wetland, including salinization and fish kills. The discovery of the acidification event led to improvements in the knowledge of processes, time frames and the ecological consequences of bio geochemical events. The methods involved in the survey, comprising the study site and water physico-chemistry are discussed. Also presented, are the results, stating the exposure, desiccation and oxygenation of reduced sulfur compounds in the wetland sediments consequencing acidification of surface water. The survey intends to minimize further acidification by preserving saturated sediments through maintaining hydrostatic pressure on the ground water system.
