Investigates the recrudescence of Hemophilus influenzae meningitis after therapy with ampicillin in a four-month-old boy with meningitis due to Hemophilus influenzae. Cause of diminishing levels of ampicillin in the cerebrospinal fluid secondary to decreasing meningeal permeability and early reduction in dose; Effectiveness of ampicillin; Function of antibiotics; Treatment with chloramphenicol.
