- Abstract
This contribution deals with an intriguing acquisition made for the Bibliotheca Thysiana in Leiden in 1680. It concerns a collection of eighteen books, which originate from the library of Juliana Catharina, Princess of Portugal (1607-80) and granddaughter of William I of Orange. The books, a curious mix of works on a variety of subjects, were acquired by Wouter van Lanschot, second curator of the Bibliotheca Thysiana, who also acted as executor to the Princess's estate. He had in all probability come to know her because he owned a country house near Sassenheim, as did Juliana Catharina.
