- Abstract
How was the French "punk adventure" written? What was its "literary" writing? What words expressed it? Jean-François Bizot, Patrice Eudeline, Kriss Vilà and Yves Adrien vividly portray the avatars of these "blank years" 1976-1980. Through witness accounts, manifestos, photo-novels and fantastic fiction, their writings show the breakdown of punk: the fiasco of the 60s' Utopianism, a shattered present, horizon of no tomorrow. The protagonists of their works stalk the vast terrain of '60s and '80s disillusions. Powerless or indifferent to the recurring Neoliberalism, they "survive" as they can, facing two hurdles: their futile marginalization, and the reversion to hollow commercialism. Brutal awakening, morbid forfeiture. "Sur la route de la déperdition et de la rédemption" ("On the road of loss and redemption") (Bizot), a form of writing emerged. Amid derision and tragedy, it describes the impasses of those years. The writing of a blank generation depicting the "ultimate convulsions" of moribund revolts; extreme writing smacking into blockades. We reread these writings built on the faults and failures of so-called Liberal-Libertarian modernity. Starkly isolated writings that nonetheless show an impossible return "to normal" and in exemplary manner the sorry limitations of this era: the long post-68, a time that haunts our present still.
