The article focuses on the attention of young children to patterns and structures which are foundation of mathematics and algebraic thinking. It mentions the reasoning of pattern in a drawing made by two children of six years and connects them to the curriculum expectations of mathematics. It states a task that assesses patterns can be used with children of age four to eight is being presented and its variations reveal the reasoning of children regarding patterns.
