The Journal for the Study of the Old Testament published a review of journals and books in which various contributors presented articles. An article by J. L. Ska discusses the influence of neighboring cultures on ancient Israel. Other articles address topics such as the function of narrative history in the Priestly source, archaeological studies and investigations, the identification of the deity Aramiš/s and the locations Qarnē/Qarnīna and Azaʾi/Aṣî, the transmission and socio-cultural embedding of the divine names in the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint, as well as various interpretations and investigations of different texts and documents. The Fourth Book of Maccabees praises the special value of a pious reason guided by Jewish law and deals with political and sociological aspects.
