- Abstract
The article describes the book "Power versus Law. The Hanoverian Constitutional Conflict 1837-1840" by Jörn Ipsen. The book deals with the constitutional conflict in the Kingdom of Hanover, which began in 1837 when King Ernst August I repealed the existing state constitution and suspended the Estates Assembly. Ipsen analyzes the conflict in detail and shows that the repeal of the state constitution constituted a flagrant violation of constitutional law and the law of the German Confederation. The book also sheds light on the background of the conflict and the repercussions that extended beyond the year 1840. It provides a well-founded representation of the conflict and highlights the tension between power and law.
