- Abstract
Objective: To report the experience of developing the diagnosis of vulnerability and to propose nursing actions with a group of males living in the Paqueta Island - Rio de Janeiro. Results: The analysis of the various aspects related to each dimension of vulnerability allowed for the diagnosis of the health needs of this population and for the elaboration of proposals for action in order to reduce the detected vulnerabilities. Participating in this process allowed for the articulation of technical and popular wisdom, expanding the concept of the health-disease process, thus permitting the vision of the meaning of health promotion. Conclusion: The developed plan of action, with the male population of Paqueta Island as subject of attention, extended the authors' conception of social health through the use of population vulnerability aiming at the promotion of health and reinforcing the principle that health and disease are not only personal, but also socio-cultural issues.
