- Title
Queering Fundamentalism: John Balcom Shaw and the Sexuality of a Protestant Orthodoxy.
- Authors
Lofton, Kathryn
- Abstract
The article focuses on the definitions of fundamentalism which tend to linger on the vitriolic political actions of a vociferous theological minority. These include the underlined role of debates over evolution and the enclave mentality of twentieth-century Protestant conservatives. It notes that "Fundamentalism" has became profound in a wide variety of religious movements, associated by a shared enclave mentality, fear of modernity, and tendency toward violence. Moreover, queering fundamentalism will allow people to imagine the interpretive space offered by such scriptural inerrancy.
