- Abstract
A biography of Isaac N. Cardozo, former member of the California State Assembly, is presented. Cardozo was born in Richmond, Virginia to a family of Sephardic Jews. He was admitted to the Philadelphia bar in 1842 then moved to San Francisco, California in 1849 to practice law. On November 2, 1852, Cardozo became one of the first Jews to be elected to the California State Assembly. He became judge of the Minnesota Supreme Court on December 7, 1859 and held the position of trustee of Mt. Zion Congregation until his death on November 2, 1887.
