- Abstract
The article analyzes the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark case Citizen United v. Federal Election Commission in which the court held that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibited the government from restricting independent political expenditures by corporations and unions. It describes the practical limitations of the decision as well as several issues which were not addressed by the court. It reflects on arguments from the critics of Citizen United.
