- Abstract
The article discusses the legal and ethical aspects of medical examiners' (MEs') performing of public molecular autopsies to gather research on the genetic causes of diseases, including on sudden death. The confidentiality and privacy issues surrounding the genetic testing of postmortem bodies, including in regard to the lack of legal necessity of informed consent for a ME to perform an autopsy, are discussed.
