- Abstract
The authors discuss aspects of the article "George Rapp and the Harmony Society," by Sophie Lenz that appeared in a 1883 issue of "Les Comptes-Rendus de L'Athénée Louisianais," which was a periodical that was published in New Orleans from 1876-1975. They note that the article provides no additional facts about Rapp and the Harmony Society, offer brief information on the author of the article, Sophie Lenz, and discuss various claims made by Lenz regarding Rapp and the Harmony Society that the authors argue are incorrect, such as the Lenz's claim that Rapp was an economist and the Harmonists' decision to adopt celibacy. The social importance of Lenz's article in advancing the knowledge of the Harmony Society is also discussed.
