A Gum-Tree Exile: Randolph Bedford in England and Italy.
- Authors
Sussex, Lucy
- Abstract
The article focuses on white Australian English language teachers in Japan and how they negotiate with the competing discourse on masculinity and marriage in popular culture. It says that Japanese women uses the English language as a way to fulfill their Occidentalist desire for Western men. It also states that the history of Western men in sexual exploitation of Asian women poses a threat to the social status of male language teachers.
