- Title
THE ONLINE JUROR.
- Authors
Browning, John G.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the impact of technology in the jury system particularly jurors' use of online searching to get information and law related to their cases. It discusses schemes to prevent jurors from searching online which include educating prospective jurors and revising the existing juror instructions. It says that the San Diego Superior Court asked the jurors to sign a declaration stating that it will not use personal electronic and media devices to research and communicate any aspect of the case. The Judicial Conference of the United States' Committee on Court Administration and Case Management issued a new set of model jury instructions in February 2010 prohibiting jurors from consulting dictionaries, searching the Internet, and communicating with anyone regarding the case.
