- Title
CONFRONTATION AND ESCAPE: ALLEN'S MEDITATIONS ON TRAGEDY AND COMEDY BEFORE MATCH POINT.
- Authors
BAILEY, PETER J.
- Abstract
The article focuses on U.S. filmmaker Woody Allen's work during the first half of 2000s. According to the author, the two playwrights in Allen's 2005 film "Melinda and Melinda" differ in their responses to their shared pessimistic premise. He also describes the distribution of nihilism and humor in the 2003 film "Anything Else." He points out that the simplicities in Allen's comedic representation always pose a risk of committing a form of cinematic bad faith.
