- Title
Corporate-sponsored research contracts--an ethical minefield.
- Authors
Simonsen, Richard J.
- Abstract
The author comments on the ethics involved in research contracts sponsored by companies. He says the manufacturer has the right to question the data if language is included that either denotes a time period during which the manufacturer has the opportunity to study and raise questions about the data prior to publication. He refers to the case of Boots Co. which suppressed publication of its own research. He contends that dental manufacturers should be urged to drop paragraphs in contracts which restrict an investigator's right to publish data.
