- Abstract
The legal protection of working women due to maternity or in situations related to it, has been a constant throughout history. However, it has not always held the same consideration. The evolution of society and the transformations that have taken place over the years have forced a change of course in terms of the social and regulatory treatment of these situations. Undoubtedly, the exposure of pregnant women to the risks associated with their professional performance is a reality that alone justifies the deserved care received. Thus, the purpose of safeguarding the physical integrity and psychosocial well-being of the mother and her offspring is evident in contemporary labour and social security legislation. In addition, to remedy the great ballasts suffered by the previous regulations, the current provisions echo and incorporate propelling measures of the principle of co-responsibility, without which we would be destined to repeat and perpetuate the traditional patterns that have so hindered effective equality between women and men in all spheres of public and private life.
