- Abstract
Objective: devise an instrument to assess the quality of stockings, with a view to reducing falls during hospital admission or at other institutions for the care of the elderly. Method: methodological study, conducted from April to June 2020, with the participation of 32 experts. The criteria included in the instrument and that resulted from a previously performed Focus Group were: anti-skid, anatomical, comfortable, waterproof, breathable, easy to wear, washable and aesthetic conditions. These criteria were subsequently submitted for evaluation by the experts. Results: the constructed instrument presented Alpha of Cronbach 0,956. The analysis of the results highlights several characteristics indispensable to the quality of the socks, as a resource for the prevention of falls: anti-slip in different types of floor; anatomical adjustment in all regions of the foot; mobility of the fingers and tibiotarsica joint; no signs of compression/garrotte; thermal comfort; pleasant feel to the touch; waterproof; breathable; easy to wear; washable, retaining the original characteristics; aesthetically of various colors and sizes, and in short format. Conclusion: the use of socks as a resource to prevent falls in the elderly, imposes the existence, in parallel, of tools that allow to evaluate their quality and highlights the importance of the built instrument.
