- Abstract
The article discusses the effects of maternal behavior on the genetic development of offsprings. The regulation hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis mediated stress responses. In rats the epigenetic mechanism of genomic stress responses involved changes affecting the methylation state of the hippocampal glucocorticoid receptor promoter gene. The mechanisms of enzymes in DNA methylation may be activated in adult post-mitotic hippocampal neurons.
