- Abstract
The Middle Ages is a highly symbolic period that predominantly communicates non-verbally. Gargoyles play a significant part in its symbolism and ability to communicate, but they are one of the least studied artistic representations in the history of art. This study seeks to connect their non-verbal communicative abilities with current artistic representations. These synergies would help establish bridges between contemporary art and gargoyles. The methodology is based on an iterative journey that connects the fundamental aspects of gargoyles with a selection of contemporary authors and works that share their values. These connections are aimed towards mutual respect and symbolic consistency, and will enable us to approach the study of gargoyles through the study of contemporary art.
