- Abstract
The article discusses East Vallejo was created to ameliorate Vallejo's wartime housing crisis and racial tension in California. It mentions that federally owned housing alone, 1,250 families migrated from Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, with the largest amount of families coming from Texas and Louisiana during World War II. It also mentions that opportunity for social mobility and more equitable pay drove thousands of southern African Americans to Mare Island.
