- Abstract
The article discusses indigenismo, or Indianism, a policy of the Mexican government regarding indigenous populations. The indigenismo movement inspired the Indian Reorganization Act, a reforms enacted by former U.S. commissioner of Indian affairs John Collier that promoted Indian self-government. Anthropologist Manuel Gamio promote indigenismo policies, which focused on the protection of indigenous peoples' rights and the promotion of connections between the government and Indian communities.
