- Abstract
The article discusses the impact the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul have had on the Los Angeles community since the women's religious order arrived in California in 1856. Particular attention is paid to the medical services and aid the nun's have provided for the needy, the young, and the infirm. The sisters overcame many obstacles to create care giving institutions including hospitals, orphanages, and schools. The nun's showed financial acumen in securing funds for facility construction.
