This contribution focuses on a stretch of the Via Appia Antica at the beginning of the road, nowadays part of the territory of the city of Rome, within the Grande Raccordo Annulare. During an excursion to Rome it is worthwhile to take some time for a walk along part of this oldest Roman road. This article is meant as an aid for such a walk, during which various important cultural historical issues can be raised.
