- Abstract
An essay is presented on the four musical works which demonstrate the relationship of the Biblical characters Ruth and Naomi, found in the Bible's Book of Ruth. It offers the interpretation of the author on the developed friendship of the two through the story's musical settings. It explains the musical scores used in the portrayal of the characters which include "Ruth: A Sacred Pastoral," by Otto Goldschmidt, "Ruth," (oratorio) by Georg Schumann, and Joseph Rumshinsky's "Ruth: Biblical Opera."
