Although it is suggested that there may be conversion to MF in the course of PPD, it is more prominent that MF may initially present with purpuric lesions. Monoclonality in T cell gene rearrangement studies favors MF and polyclonality indicates benign nature, although rarely polyclonality may be seen in MF and monoclonal infiltrate may be seen in PPD.
