- Abstract
The article discusses the role of clear visibility in underwater endoscopic submucosal dissection (U-ESD) for preventing post-endoscopic submucosal dissection electrocoagulation syndrome (PECS). The authors present an alternative viewpoint on the mechanism of PECS prevention in U-ESD based on their experience and other studies. They found that incorporating underwater techniques in most conventional ESD (C-ESD) procedures reduced the incidence of PECS to 2.3%. The authors propose that the improved visibility in U-ESD, rather than the heat-sink effect, is the main factor in reducing the risk of PECS. They conclude that U-ESD is currently the most useful and feasible method for performing the procedure.
