- Abstract
Objective: to associate environmental factors with hospitalizations and deaths from cerebrovascular disease in residents of the city of Nova Iguaçu. Methods: observational, retrospective, and analytical study. Air quality databases (PM10) from INEA, data on hospitalizations and deaths from DATASUS, due to cerebrovascular diseases (CVD) contained in ICD X (subchapters I63-I66 and I69) were used. Statistical inference was used as causes of hospitalizations and deaths from CVD divided by sex considering p-value = 0.05. Environmental factors were correlated with hospitalizations and deaths from CVD. Statistical analyzes used SPSS IBM 25 software and graphic design for Excel and R studio. Results: Average annual PM10 averages exceeded CONAMA standards by 4.4 times. Males had a higher number of hospitalizations and deaths from cerebrovascular diseases, and in younger age groups, women. The correlation between upper air and hospitalizations was very strong positive (r = 0.990) and with deaths was positive and weak (r = 0.320). Conclusion: Despite the reduction in PM10 concentrations over the years, the values exceeded CONAMA standards, correlating with the increase in hospitalizations and deaths from CVD in the city.
