- Abstract
Non-circular gears have the characteristics of gear ratio accuracy and good dynamic performance but are difficult to manufacture. Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) can process almost all kinds of non-circular gears. In order to manufacture non-circular gears that meet the surface requirements, it is necessary to study the influence of different processing conditions on the surface quality of non-circular gears and obtain the optimal combination of process parameters under the requirements of multiple process indicators. The present study aims to identify the optimum machining parameters of non-circular gears in WEDM. Peak current, pulse-on time, pulse-off time, and tracking were used as process parameters to study the surface integrity indicators (surface roughness, surface residual stress, and surface microhardness) of gears. Analysis of range technique was used to study the effect on surface roughness, surface residual stress, and surface microhardness. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to transform the multi-objective parameter optimization into single-objective optimization, and the optimal parameter combination under multiple process indicators requirements could be obtained. The method's effectiveness was verified by comparing it with the grey relational analysis method. The multi-objective optimization results showed that the surface integrity increased by 19.37% when the peak current was 2 A, the pulse-on time was 8 μs, the pulse-off time was 8 μs, and the tracking was 450 HZ/s.
