In Professor Nunn's article on delivering bad news,[1] he says that we need to balance realism with optimism. When a family hears that their child has a life-threatening illness, they begin a journey where they carry a combination of fear and sorrow with them at all times. What will sustain them emotionally is HOPE.[2] We are the bearers of that HOPE and it is crucial for us to deliver some, no matter how dire the situation.
