- Abstract
The occurence of rhabdomyolysis with consequent renal failure and diffuse hepatopathy should rise a high index of suspicion of drug overdose, even in the absence of obvoius intravenous drug abuse. Admission to the intensive care unit is associated with a mortality of 22% in the absence of acute kidney injury, and 59% if renal impairment occurs. It is very rare for overdose to occur after intranasal administration of heroin. We present a case of a 31- year old male, admitted to our Intensive Care Unit with clinical presentation of coma, rhabdomyolysis, acute kidney failure and diffuse hepatopathy after heroin overdose caused by intranasal administration (snifing).
