- Abstract
The article looks at the "Prout Papers," a series of articles written for "Fraser's Magazine" during the 19th century by journalist Francis Sylvester Mahony, using the fictional persona of Catholic priest Father Prout. Particular focus is given to the series' role within the otherwise anti-Catholic and pro-Union periodical, which was edited by William Maginn. Topics discussed include Toryism, Irish patriotism, irony, and literary aesthetics.
