- Abstract
The article examines Jewish forced-labor in Estonia and the production of synthetic oil on behalf of the company Baltic Oil Ltd. The role of slave labor in plans developed by the Nazis for the Jewish population is explored and the survival rate among inmates of Estonian labor camps is compared with the survival rates of concentration camps in the last years of World War II. The importance of the oil shale industry, manpower shortages, and the mass execution at Klooga, Estonia in September 1944 are also discussed.
