- Title
Lucian's Triumphant Cinaedus and Rogue Lovers.
- Authors
JOPE, JAMES
- Abstract
The author examines "Dialogues of the Dead" 19 and "Alexander the False Prophet" 5 to show Lucian's relevance for recovering ancient social values relating to sex. The first text is explored in the contexts of a Cynic background and the sexual conventions and stereotypes concerning older men's affair with young boys in Greece during the Roman Empire. It also shows how clues for literary interpretations can be missed in the second text, a parody of Platonic love between a student and his teacher.
