- Abstract
The article reports on the importance of studying the properties, uses, and formation of rocks to students in the U.S. Through observing, describing, and classifying the diversity of rocks, students may learn the specific physical properties of rocks. Students in grades K-3 explore the properties and uses of their own pet rock, while students in grades 4-6 investigate rock stories. Scope in studying the property of rocks include the shape, size, color, texture, and luster. Furthermore, the Standards advice that for grades K-4, the study of rocks should not reach the subject matter on rock cycle because this concept has little application to young children.
