- Abstract
The article provides information on the dental and orthodontic management of patients with cleft lip and palate. It explains that these conditions are congenital deformities that affect approximately one in 700 live births. The article emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, involving multiple healthcare providers with experience in this patient population. It also discusses specific oral health considerations and challenges faced during orthodontic management, such as skeletal issues and dental challenges. The article concludes by highlighting the different stages of orthodontic treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate, including presurgical orthopedics, comprehensive orthodontic treatment, and orthodontic treatment in preparation for orthognathic surgery. The goal of treatment is to correct skeletal patterns, alleviate crowding, and improve facial aesthetics.
