- Abstract
The article discusses research on thiamine deficiency (TD) and whether it could cause cellular level contractile dysfunction. Subjects of the study were male Wistar rats randomly given a diet with thiamine while others were given TD diet for a period of 35 days. The study also measured cellular contractility. Conclusions of the study indicated an increase in fractional shortening with 1 to 3 hertz (HZ) stimulation frequencies in TD cardiac cells and increased rates of contraction and relaxation in TD cells.
