- Abstract
To study the effect of copper compounds on nitrocellulose (NC) thermal decomposition behaviour, Cu2O, CuCl2, and CuCl with a 10% mass fraction were added to NC by ultrasonic dispersion method compared to NC-Pure. The surface structure of NC and NC mixtures was characterised by field emission-scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The thermal decomposition of NC and NC mixtures was obtained using simultaneous thermal analysis. The results showed that Cu2O, CuCl2, and CuCl all promoted the reaction of NC. Moreover, the non-isothermal kinetic model revealed the thermal decomposition mechanism. However, the mechanism underlying NC mixed with copper compounds still was an autocatalytic reaction. This study explored more reference data for reducing the incompatible hazard of NC mixed with copper compounds during its storage and application process.
