- Authors
Boschi, Stefano; Castellucci, Paolo; Nanni, Cristina
- Abstract
This article explores the concept of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine, specifically focusing on positron emission tomography (PET) and its ability to observe function. It discusses the development and use of radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostics and therapy, particularly in addressing unmet clinical needs in oncology. The article also discusses the importance of theragnostic pairs of radionuclides in nuclear medicine, which allow for accurate imaging and targeted therapy. It highlights the success of theragnostic approaches in prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors, as well as the potential of fibroblast activation protein inhibitors as targets for radionuclide therapy. The authors stress the need to protect the academic development of theragnostic agents and promote appropriate training in nuclear medicine procedures.
