Title
Biology: A colourful past.
Abstract
The article cites a study which found that reconstructions of extinct species often show garish colours to animals on the basis of nothing more than artistic licence. Through the use of scanning electron microscope, it examined the organized pigment structures of melanosomes in fossils, but due to the loss of keratin, feather's exact hue could not be determined. But compared with the melanosomes of modern birds suggest black feathers with a irisdescent blue, green or copper sheen.
