- Abstract
The article provides an overview of the study which investigated that cancer-inducing oncogenes could protect cells from anoikis by maintaining the cell's glucose consumption. The research showed that the death of normal away-from-home' cells is caused by starvation. It examined that anoikis occurs when cells detach from the basement membrane. It noted that originally anoikis was thought to be executed by apoptosis, but it found out that it does not prevent anoikis because detached cells die anyway.
