Title
Evolution: All for self.
Abstract
The article discusses the ability of plants to switch from outcrossing to self-fertilization despite its inherent disadvantages such as loss of genetic variation. Topics include an overview of research by Stephen Wright and colleagues of the University of Toronto, Canada, investigating the evolutionary speed of self-fertilization in Capsella rubella and Capsella grandiflora and how agricultural development may have prompted the switch.
