An essay is presented which explores the use of legal terminology in the correspondence of Margaret Paston, taken from the "Paston Letters and Papers of the 15th Century," vol. 20 and 21 edited by Norman Davis, vol. 22 edited by Richard Beadle and Colin Richmond. The author uses the letters to explore women's administrative roles in English medieval family life.
