- Abstract
It is shown that an alternance consisting of less than 2 n points does not guarantee best approximation by simple partial fractions of degree n. We obtain a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of a simple partial fraction of degree ⩽ 3 of best approximation and propose a numerical method for verifying this condition. We also construct an example of nonuniqueness of a simple partial fraction of degree ⩽ 3 of best approximation, as well as some other theoretical examples. Bibliography: 4 titles.
