- Abstract
Tooth avulsion is a severe injury that causes damage to dental and support tissue, and occurs mainly in the upper incisors. Ankylosis, replacement resorption and often infraocclusion are detected sequelae after reimplantation of an avulsed tooth in less than ideal conditions. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical management facing a left maxillary central incisor (21) avulsed, replanted and sought treatment after 5 days. Eight-year-old boy sought treatment along with his mother in the Specialized Center of Dental Trauma after bicycle fall. The avulsed tooth was stored dry and reimplantation was performed 3 hours after avulsion. 12 days after the accident the endodontic treatment was initiated and monthly exchange medication was carried out with calcium hydroxide base during 8 months. Six months after the obturation of the tooth 21, there was ankylosis and root replacement resorption. Due to the patient's bone growth after 2 years and 6 months of injury, it was noticed that the tooth 21 was in infraocclusion. It was opted for the direct restoration of this tooth with composite resin, to make the most aesthetically pleasing smile and avoid extraction, keeping the natural tooth as long as possible, later in adulthood to be subjected to extraction and implant placement. It was concluded that in accordance with the unfavorable prognosis patients recovered their self-esteem, and the tooth is in position, function and aesthetically harmonious; and the bone structure will be preserved for later implant placement.
