- Abstract
This article presents information on various audio-visual materials. "Images of Labor," is a book of full-color reproductions of original paintings and sculptures based on workers' quotations. The video recording "New Yorkers at Work: Oral Histories of Life, Labor and Industry," contains segments on clerical workers, public employees, immigration, labor after World War II, and the economic changes that have affected working class life and the struggle to make work meaningful. "Bread and Raises: Songs for Working Women," is the title of a new record album being promoted by Coalition of Labor Union Women. Artist Bobbie McGee sings 13 songs about women workers and their struggle for dignity on the job and equality in their paychecks. McGee has chosen songs that span a period from 1912 through the 1980s. According to the promotional release, the origin of the album's title is the great textile strike of 1912 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The video recording "Children of Labor: A Finnish-American History," touches on the activities of Finnish workers in miners' strikes, the Socialist and Communist parties, and their major role in the creation of the co-operative movement.
