- Abstract
The article focuses on the Net-Zero Energy Residential Test Facility (NZERTF) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, that features energy-efficient construction and appliances, solar water heating and photovoltaic system. It mentions that heavy snowfall and cloudy days from November 2013 to March 2014 forced NZERTF to draw energy from the electric grid. It also states that NZERTF needs to overcome the energy deficit created in winters.
